Submental liposuction empties the fat compartment under the chin with cannulas to define the jaw–neck angle. It is enough when skin elasticity is good; loose skin and platysma bands need a neck lift. Most patients go home the same day; a compression band is part of recovery.

Submental fat is a regional pocket that diet often leaves behind. Fine cannulas reduce this pocket. If the skin is elastic it redrapes. Banding or sagging can look worse after liposuction alone; a neck lift is then planned.
